Deconstructing your faith starts with lament. We MUST grieve the loss of what we thought we had, before we can clearly see what we need. One of the things the church struggles with the most is grief. Toxic religion has mistakenly taught us to push down emotions...
Imposter syndrome is real, I don’t doubt that. What I question is why on earth do I give imposter syndrome so much credit and why is it so much worse in the church than it is in the outside world?
Deconstructing your faith can seem like an overwhelming process to jump into, especially if you’ve spent much of your life embedded in Christian communities. There are a LOT of questions to ask and a LOT of answers for each question. Wondering how to deconstruct your...
I’m excited to share this book with you because I know the hardest parts of my faith deconstruction journey were often the moments I spent completely drowning in indecision. It’s my hope that this book will shorten your time in the wilderness as you untangle...
Women who are deconstructing their faith are often told the Bible says we are not allowed to be pastors, preachers, and leaders in the church if it gives us authority over men. There are a TON of reasons people give to back up this idea but every single one relies on...
Women in the church are constantly facing toxic religious culture and trauma. Patriarchal teaching and abusive leadership create a toxic environment where women question their value, voice, and beliefs. Even though trauma changes our lives, it's possible to grow...
One of the most dangerous myths in church is that women are utterly broken and unredeemable. Junk. Sure, grace covers all of our sins, but yet we are still women who are responsible for the fall of mankind. And therefore we still need authority over us to protect us from ourselves. Basically, the myth says we are savable, but not redeemable in God’s eyes. We never get to go back to that pre-fall intimacy with God. Unless we have a male authority figure guiding us there, of course. First of all, that’s total heresy. The only thing we need to access God is Jesus. Second of all, it exists to allow men to take power that never belonged to them.
Being a Christian leader is hard… But leading with a constant onslaught of toxic religious culture and patriarchal beliefs in your face makes leading even harder. It’s downright exhausting. ALL Christians are called to be leaders no matter how tough the road. If you ever struggle with your role as a Christian leader, take comfort in knowing that you aren’t alone. Give yourself grace and know that there are things you can do to help you on your journey. I hope this list of my top 10 ways to be a better Christian leader will help if you’re feeling stuck!
We are here to talk about today is the role that the church, and the prolific twisted teachings and false doctrines, play in this crime and other acts of violence on women.
Today’s poem speaks to the heartache and heaviness that surrounds us this season. I pray that this poem is sacred medicine that comforts your weary heart.
I think it’s important to get really honest about how faith isn’t always comfortable, Sometimes spiritual growth really challenges us and there’s a lot of work to be done. It’s unrealistic to expect that every day Christian community will be all shiny happy people-ish.
This conversation is focusing on much deeper pain than the normal ups and downs.
We are talking about the church hurts that have nothing to do wit God. Things like physical, emotional, spiritual and sexual abuse at the hands of church leadership. Or church sanctioned racism, nationalism, xenophobia, gender bias and homophobia that teaches some neighbors are less worthy of our love.
Sometimes you have to take a step back from church when what is being preached and modeled by leadership ties legalism, racism, and hate to “being a good Christian”.
The Abide Bible and journals are gorgeous but are they worth buying? Check out my 100% honest review to see what I think!
Ravi Zacharias is Not An Anomaly, He’s The Very Common Fruit of the Toxic Religious Tree We Have Been Watering for Centuries.
The recently uncovered Ravi Zacharais abuse scandal is not a unique, once-in-a-lifetime case. Sadly, it is just one example in a long line of ongoing systems of abuse in the church. And as long as the the church continues to prioritize the success and protection of abusers over the safety, validity, and rights of victims, this will continue to happen. But the church can, and has to, do better. Read more to see how the abuse was allowed to happen, what could have been done differently, and signs of abuse to watch for in our churches and organizations.
Tara Beth Leach’s book “Radiant Church” is a prophetic, inspiring call for the church to strip layers of patriarchy and toxic religious culture in order to bear witness to the love of Christ in our world.
Years and years of toxic religious culture and patriarchal conditioning have led many women to believe that being a peacemaker means refusing to argue. Refusing to engage in any and all forms of conflict. Or even bending over backward to make sure that others are comfortable, even in situations where they are in the wrong. However, this type of thinking actually tends to cause more harm than good, both in our own lives and in the lives of others.
